This is a seemingly simple problem with the clothing system, but if you're wearing a chic or dashing clothing item it will override your attractiveness shortdesc, so if you're an enchanting girl in a chic dress you'll just be a chic girl, not a chic enchanting girl.
Well-dressed works correctly, showing both the clothing adjective and the appearance adjective, eg, well-dressed tall mano or well-dressed winsome chola.
Is there any way we can fix this? People have been using @hold-back to make clothes of intentionally lesser quality just so their clothes don't override their appearance. Thanks!

Think this got brought up on this thread as well, would be good to get it fixed as I've experienced this and I doubt it's intentional.

Is Chic/Dashing the highest adjective?
What happens when you use Appear and then dress Chic/Dashing?

I don't think it is the highest, but it depends on your surroundings. Chic might be the highest you'll see around Gold/Green, but I have seen it go higher in the lev, where different standards are applied.
But I also have the suspicion that the suppression may be intentional, as the garment stands out more than your own attractiveness, in comparison. Other adjectives already suppress 'average' for example, this is the case for both well-dressed and chic, actually, so in this case chic might just be 'strong' enough to override your attractive, too.

I really doubt it's intentional.
'Chic' clothes are pretty trivial to get and not especially hard to make.
High end appearance shortdescs can takes months or years of investment.

Could be a quirk of how shortdescs are calculated.
Your body is attractive. Your clothes are chic. All but your head and eye nakeds are covered by 'Chic', and only your head and eye are 'attractive', so the total result is only 'chic' shows. As in, the zones 'covered' by the clothes aren't counted in the same way that you can wear cheap underwear under expensive clothes and only the top clothes count.

I am pretty confident it's just a bug. You don't sometimes get a build adjective with different combinations of well-dressed and just clothed.
As Crooknose points out, as it works now chic clothes are basically worse since they output your build shortdesc instead of your APP, which makes no sense and actively punishes players who spent a lot of investment in their APP to begin with – the characters disproportionately more likely to want to wear chic clothes.

After some testing it's only chic/dashing that seems to cause this.
Well-dressed (appear) (shortdesc) upgrades to chic/dashing (build) (shortdesc) which itself upgrades to wealthy (appear) (shortdesc).

Thank you so much for testing this. I've been confused since the first time I got "chic."

I just added a new bug for this. You should be able to be 'chic enchanting' or 'chic gorgeous' or whatever, not just chic. I can't wear chic clothes even though I can make them :(

You should not get multiple descriptors filling up what is supposed to be a succinct description. The fashion keywords are prioritized such that certain ones are dominate over other ones and I don't want multiple of those keywords to surface there.
The idea to make glance express all of them is still a good idea and hasn't been forgotten.

The only trouble I have with fixing this is it closes one of the few viable options to disguise one's attractiveness modifier. Under the current system if you are trying to disguise yourself as a gruff individual fresh to the streets you can use shabby clothing to mask your attractiveness. If all the adjectives show people will immediately be able to see you're running an attractive character despite your shabby choice of clothing, and from there guess you are probably not who you are pretending to be.
Might be worth is own idea thread, but there needs to be a way to present as less attractive than you are for disguise purposes.

You can already disguise your attractiveness adjective. Find out IC.

I'm aware items that cover your face mask your attractiveness, this is specifically for use cases in which you are trying to present as a different person. The items associated with this kind of disguise in my experience do not mask attractiveness. I'm also not particularly keen on @holdback as an option to mask this obvious tell as it presents your character with obvious vulnerabilities.
