initial character creation woes

After having created a new account I am faced with a “Your Characters” page consisting of one “New Character (#-1)” that I cannot seem to change and nothing else. If I understand the tutorial video correctly this should show a character with my temporary user name, but it doesn’t. Please advise on how to proceed

Check your email for a temporary login and a password, and login to the MOO via the web client using those credentials.

Check your spam folder if you don't see the email.
