Pubsic npc chime-ins

We all see them, I believe some of them are shared with the stuff to put on NPC ct's and my question is… What's the point of them?

Some are nice and thematic to randomly throw out, many just come across as pretty cringy, but I am wondering what is the expectations of having them float on pubsic, is it to generate chatter? Add some randomness to the world? Or are they supposed to be some signposts of things that are possible within the game, though likely through GM running rather than mechanics?

I'm just eternally confused when I see most of them, so wanted to ask.

Most of it is clearly just to make pubSIC feel alive, which is very necessary because it'll go from very busy to so dead I check to make sure I didn't accidentally leave 'ci chat' on (again). Also, more often then not I find if you engage with them they come back and it can lead to funny interactions or things relevant to current storylines.

Are they sometimes very out of left field and saying things that are off-putting? Yeah, but try to immerse yourself in the game's world and remember these are the errant thoughts of one of millions of people in a city filled with lonely, depressed, angry personalities.

I try to respond to these to give pubsic some activity now and then. Sometimes it's a little poke to get people rping. Some of them I'm not a fan of (or I'm just busy irl or working on something ic) but the other day one actually made me get off my bum and go outside, looking for something that wasn't there. It had me laughing that I fell for it.
I like them… just wish they were more varied.
