With the advent of Decker solutions to mitigate alias hopping, making it basically inviable now…

What if Deckers could also submit messages with random burner aliases (like the ones GM send sometimes)?

Ideally, players would be able to pay Deckers to spoof SIC aliases, send their bullshit, and remain somewhat anonymous.

How would this work? Ideally I think via a deck program that takes an input, has limited uses, and increases grid heat as you are spoofing or forging your SIC footprint.

This would let us all go back to anonymous shit talking, but with RP and decker involvement.

I like this idea though I feel there should be a check and balance to tracking this as well, or also possibly other ways (can we make an avenue for techs to be able to do this too?)

Alias hopping isn't really "inviable" at all if you even slightly know what you're doing, given Grid programs take time to run, but I still like this idea.

You can kinda already do this I think. You just need to be in certain locations in front of Sic terminal boxes. RIGHT? I could be wrong though.

i dont think there being ways to do it manually means there shouldnt be ways for deckers to do it remotely, too. that's a very strange mindset to have. you can mail letters so why dont we get rid of gridmail

Checks and balances are implied by "limited uses" and grid heat, and not to mention the social risk of having to hire a decker to actually spread your message.

I see this as a way to help deckers stay anonymous and empower their archetype as well. By giving them access to a new functionality that the rest of the archetypes don't, thus making them more valuable.

Alias hopping as an actual mechanism, not by changing your alias and hope nobody caught a whiff.

I am sure there are ways to game the system but this isn't really my angle here.

Being able to slot a SIC into a term and then use it sort of like a 'puppet' at the risk of drawing major grid heat would open up a whole new world of anonymous communication.

i also feel its worth pointing out, you specified in your original post "has limited uses" - every grid program has limited uses, it's a built in feature to keep deckers from just writing one really good version of a program and hanging onto that forever. how many uses you get depends on several factors, but, yeah. just felt it was worth mentioning

Adam's suggestion is neat, but if we go down that route they'll have to make the actual SIC implant easier to get your hands on. If I remember right, the implant itself doesn't actually 'exist' mechanically in a character unless a GM puts it there (for whatever purposes you might want it to exist in a character)
