Allow change of skin tone
If Michael Jackson did it, why not us?

Currently you are allowed to change your height, weight, and sex with the machines available in a certain megacorp tower. You can also change everything else about your character's physical appearance.

However there doesn't seem to be an IC mechanism to change your skintone, so you are effectively locked with what you started on chargen.

Could the machine allow change of skintone too? With considerable cost (monetary and physical side effects perhaps).

I personally think there should be at least ONE constant for identification purposes.
I'd rather that we lean on real identification mechanisms like DNA, finger and blood prints, and other biological indicators other than skin colors. It's already meta / anti-RP to identify someone based off their skin color alone (there are 10s of millions of people for every color) so that's not really a good identifier under any circumstances. This suggestion is more in the line of, if we can already change everything about the character's physical appearance, why not the color too?
i think this is a can of worms.
From my understanding, ID mechanisms through blood & prints, as a Forensics skill, is specifically gated behind tech only available to the WJF. Forensics-skilled PCs not aligned with the Hall, specifically, can only check corpses for Forensics analysis. If that's true, this kind of change would make it so any attacker would be able to commit a crime, pop in for a change of their entire body's appearance, then disappear. I agree with Mindhunter, I think there should be one constant. I'm fine keeping skin-tone unalterable.

I was not suggesting that anyone identify someone based off of their skin color alone or that skin color is unique. I am saying there should be at least one visible constant that someone can't change about themselves.
No faction has a gatekeep on any of the forensic abilities or information brought up in the thread. You can explore who and how can find out what and when IC.
"If Michael Jackson did it, why not us?"

Dawg, MJ didn't do that by choice. Insane subtitle to choose for this thread. Far be it from me to derail, but genuinely, what in the absolute fuck? Not too much on MJ's name.

Alright, I'm good.

To get back on topic: I'd like if this were a thing but only for exotic skin tones. If you want to biomod to gold, or red, or green skin to mark yourself as a freak then why not? Alternatively being able to modify (all of) your skin with a chrome finish would be a decent cosmetic addition.

Changing skin tone to regular colors would be used to aide disguising, and it's already easy enough to hide as is, barring extreme small worlding.
Agree with the post above, MJ had vitiligo, he didn't '''become white''' by choice.

That aside, i think changing skin tone would be fine as long as it was limited in the scope. People who spend a lot of time inside should become paler, and people who are out in the sun more often should get tans. Corpos could have tanning beds. Maybe you look more pale if you're sick or lost a lot of blood.
behold the woims.
I will add the most inane side to this: I want to be able to be pale at times and tan at times, not for disguise but just for aesthetics.
tanning beds i think are fine. i also think avoiding the sun for a long time if ur character is naturally pale should be allowed to revert it. there's treatments even today that some people use to become paler, especially popular in some parts of asia (though idk if problematic).

i also never thought fantasy skin tones would be a bad thing to change to?
yeah adding tanning beds and/or fantastical skin colors (bright red, green, purple, etc) that people can mod into would be cool as fuck
