Answering Machine
Leave a message at the tone, baka

Name says it all. We have missed calls but why not recorded messages? I'd go so far as to have a machine that is -only- for calling and leaving messages, something that can go in a pad and is vulnerable to being overheard, used by your snitching output, etc. It feels like this could use the same coding a VoiceNote does but I'm speaking outside of my expertise at that point. I'd settle for another overpriced app on the Progia, too, mind since that's vulnerable in the same way as text messages are but this way you're more likely to see it used, imo.
I love how you worded this, yes please.
I also see now someone put forward a similar idea a long time ago but as voice mails. I didn't think about that, but it's the same principle and the ideas in that thread are all still valid..over twenty years later.
I really like this idea and I think it would help support RP between folks with schedules that don't always line up. That being said, the game already provides a couple means of asynchronous communication such as grid mail and text messages. Personally, I would like to see the usage of the existing tools increase before adding a third.
I like the idea, but also feels like you can achieve the same with messages already which are criminally underused.

I think the upside here is possible exposure as someone can eavesdrop on you hearing out messages but I struggle to see adoption if implemented

I'm having flashback to my phreaking dayz.

Instead of an answering machine in an apartment, how about a voice mail system? Call a number, enter a PIN. Listen to your messages.

The catch. Deckers can backdoor the system and listen to all the messages. And maybe even setup their own mailboxes.

Additional features. Monthly cost. Or per message cost. Or, whatever cost. With deckers being able to dodge those and create "free" accounts.

Expanded scope. Factions setup their own systems. Start ups offer services to those who aren't in factions. All of these systems need to be secured. And kept secure.

Could even slap a memory stick in it for storage. Could even play them on a voice note of obtained by a third party..
As was mentioned, we basically already have two other versions of this system. Gridmail and text messages. While I understand the reasoning behind the ask, developing an entirely new system with duplicate functionality doesn't make sense to me.

I get that one is 'talking' and one is 'writing' ICly, but it's all writing OOCly in the end :)

The idea of someone being able to eavesdrop is cool though. I'll look at adding that to the existing systems.
