Backup is on the way!
Allow PCs to tap into the NPC backup system.

What it says on the tin, guys.

I think we should allow folk to use the same system as the NPCs do for backup. Use a specific line on your company/gang SIC and a few (perhaps less NPCs than when an NPC would call out?) NPCs show up to help you.

I get that this might be powerful, maybe too powerful. But perhaps for pledges/junior corpsec/junior TERRA it could make the early start easier. (especially TERRA with how unattractive that job is due to inevitable chain vattings).

Addendum:

Perhaps, as a compromise if that's seen TOO strong, make NPCs that accompany you call out for backup if YOU are attacked, too. That'd do away with PCs calling for help in every fight and would require you to drag an NPC along with our wonky follow code.

i don't feel that TERRA are going to be chainvatted anytime soon due to the consequences that happen to people who kill them a lot. besides, they've gotten stronger.
Those consequences require GM attention. We seem to be in a short supply of GMs lately.

Barring high-UE PCs joining TERRA, they're not that strong at all. But this ain't about TERRA only. Corpsec could have it, CGH sec could, give it to everyone who is able to command NPCs in their clan/group/corp/cult//gangwhatever.

You would have to scrutinize each faction and assess whether or not this would be fitting for their theme too.

I realize you said not just TERRA, but to use them as an example, historically they have had an IC policy about backup IIRC.

I think if everyone had the ability to call for automated backup through SIC then things might get a little weird.
