I am against this and I am against all existing large permapads (I know that can't be changed, though, and it's okay.) Would rather have GMs use large pads as RP rewards/hooks than have players pay RL money for them.

+1 Bear. Don't like the idea of paying just for a big house. Earn that shit through RP.

I feel like it's extremely unfair some people still have permapads when no one can get one anymore. Makes me wish I'd paid for one way back when, though not sure they were still around when I joined Sindome in late 2017.

Not a fan of permapads being purchased with IRL money personally. I understand why the legacy ones are respected but staff converting them into a merit based reward for good RP/player GMing has been way better than just paying for them. Keep them as status symbols and IC rewards.

Yes, this is being done, and has been done for some time on our game. (Large pads being rewarded for RP)

Huh. I didn't know about that. Are those permapads or just for the character?

RP rewarded pads are per character and often come with an ic time limit for various reasons.

Interesting. Well, good to know. I suppose it makes sense at least celebs and executives and mix rich people would have access to stuff like that, though I didn't know pads could be rewarded by staff.

The pad rewards make no sense to me especially if a person can't justify it. But I get it.

You can get them IC as a 'reward', but it's very vague and there's no clear way to do so. I have seen it maybe two or three times since I have started playing. Maybe more clarification or integration with jobs/factions would be good.

I've seen it multiple times in my short time here. It just sometimes doesn't always make sense.
But heeey! Kudos to those deserving em!

It's not your place to be criticizing or questioning what is or is not justified for other player's outcomes or rewards or roleplay, QZ, whether that is character promotions or character rewards or whatever else. If you have an issue you can broach it privately with staff, but it's not appropriate to be publicly discrediting someone's outcomes as invalid even if you're using the passive voice.

In 99% (if not 100%) of these merit-based cases it makes more sense compared to how it'd be if large pads could be paid for with IRL money.
I think it'd be very immersion breaking for me personally if suddenly all your average mixers with barely any IC income or juniors were living in penthouses or luxury apartments.

There's lots of ways for these things to be implemented when it's at staff's discretion but my general experience with pad rewards is they are used where an appropriately fair chyen reward for a long career or a successful difficult plot or a large piece of content creation, would be basically destablizing to the game's small actual economy.

Seconding Batko's suggestion on clarification for the steps involved to earn these types of rewards, particularly for characters creating/engaging in a lot of plot that don't happen to be part of a large organization or faction where said steps are a little more clear-cut.
There's so many unused large pads out there that seem to just be gathering dust.

I don't think I agree with the idea that there should be any OOC recipe or guidelines for specific IC rewards, it seems to me that's going to end with players trying to check boxes for the wrong reasons and a lot of hurt feelings that they think they did X, Y and Z and didn't get what was promised to them, or complaining that so-and-so got something but didn't do this or that.

Fair 0x1mm but I think that already happens, it's often difficult not to compare yourself to other players or wonder what it is they're doing that you aren't or haven't.
I'm not petitioning for very specific guidelines to follow, just more opportunities for these rewards to be earned in the first place and maybe a little less obfuscation on how it can be done.

There's a lot of really cool large pads. I do wish they were a bit cheaper IC, as quite a lot of them exceed what you could actually earn to pay for them on a weekly basis. But! The staff do reward them. I get that it can feel unfair, but if you want one, it might be helpful to note that your char is hustling hard, making connections, etc in trying to earn one.
Ive also paid an obscene amount to buy one for a couple weeks. (Then promptly earned favoritism fingers pointed by others thinking it was given to me. Kek) You CAN pay for them, your bank account will just be really pissed off.
There's also a few pads that aren't larges but are cool that you can earn access to. (Not many) Some are kind of tied to archetypes or status.
Someday I'll figure out how to make an obnoxious rental agent character to live out all my terrible landlord experiences from the other side. :P

I don't think an OOC recipe is necessary per se, but I think some help files could make it clear that large pads are usually acquired by plots, and NPCs could be more clear IC on what is possible or can be reasonably expected in that sphere.

There is probably not an exact answer, but you can acquire knowledge of examples of recent acquisitions ICly if you need some guidance. That said, this does not necessarily mean the means those individuals used will be available to you.

It just strikes me that these aren't player possessions anymore, they're character possessions, and so I don't really see a precedent for documenting to players how any prestige possession is acquired. There isn't OOC documentation or guidance for, for example, purchasing capstone weapons or specialist vehicles or rare or unique items, all of which are going to require somewhere between a little and a heck of a lot of in-character work to learn about. Is there a reason I'm not seeing that players wouldn't or shouldn't be expected to do the same for apartments?

Honestly, a really good point 0x1mm.
That said, I can still understand if people want some kind of guidance, if it's something they want, that other people were simply grandfathered into.

That is a fair point, the grandfathering thing does change the character of apartments to be not quite like other types of game possessions since they're not truly equal opportunity.
Yes I think that convinces me some guidance is more equitable than none.

I think there will always be some inherent frustration that some players get infinite use of large pads, some of which have special features, while the rest are simply have-nots that don't have any clear method of achieving the same thing.

This is the most explicit staff have ever been in writing about large pad rewards, and some version of this is probably the most someone could document in a help file and not have it be misleading or set false expectations:
Slither: "These pads are available for players to RP for, which has always been the case– and in a recent staff meeting we have taken the additional step of making sure everyone knows they are available for folx to RP for. We also have a recurring agenda item to discuss if there are players working towards this, so we can be aware and act accordingly and appropriately...We've heard the feedback that folx want to have access to these things ICly, and we're actioning on it for those that seek it out and RP for it (for example through consistent stellar RP at their job, or as a major plot reward). As Celestial said, there are a number of people who have already had something like this in the past, but it isn't something that is going to be advertised ICly, so I think the perception is that anyone who has one got it by paying for it, which is not the case. Hopefully that clarifies things."
Johnny: "While we may offer large pad rewards again in the future, we would rather reward Great roleplaying and significant IC accomplishments with access to these special locations. Players that overwhelmingly succeed can find themselves presented with these opportunities. Players may find they gain temporary access due to plots or in game events as well. While we're not going to get specific on what steps you need to take, you should know that it's possible to get into these amazing places without having to donate real world money."

If there are avenues to secure a 12 month rental on a large pad, these options are not being presented. At all.
People in the Mix would notice offers the roughly equivalent of 1.5 million. which is where twelve month leases on large pads start. They would notice what jobs allow them to have those pads. They would know who to be jealous of.
Closest thing we have is Badlands Survivor which is going to happen approximately never.
So staff can say that players can earn these as rewards, but when I hear staff say things like "rewards for exceptional roleplay", I just hear "Syndicate", so why bother even trying to reach for that brass ring when it very obviously above the glass ceiling?

Risikio, while somehow finding a way to complain about syndicates in every thread is amusing, I don't think you should do it, especially because it's all just disinformation like with the last thread you derailed with it.

This is an indication to me that anything more than what was said previously can't be codified and there it is probably all best left for characters to discover and find out about IC. I don't think something that is conditional, subjective, and uncommon is compatible with specific public documentation, there is going to be too much player fixation on the wrong things like this is intro to contract law.

Permapads likely won't be coming back anytime soon. Staff discussed this a while ago. The only reason they are still listed as an option on the website is that I don't have access to edit that particular page. Johnny has already approved it for removal, but he's the only one that can physically remove it.
It will be pulled from the website eventually.
