Chips not auto-copied to new sleeves
For increased shenanigans and RP

So… SIC chips and their associated serial numbers are pretty heckin' powerful. For so many reasons. I was thinking what if Genetek negotiated with Sensenet to offer remapping for 500c instead of 1000c if people opt out of having their previous SIC chips disabled and transferred to their sleeve's new chip (as they are currently)? They could do so in partnership with the major hospitals and clinics in the city. Both megacorps could save on production and data transfer costs of the SIC chip product by 17%! And this would open more rp opportunities all around, I think.

People could lug their old bodies to the hospital to have their chips scooped out and shoved back in their necks for a flat fee of 1000c. Perhaps to include the vast amount of Medical we have around, you could make this process doable by nurses, just a simple point and jab with a very low skillcheck (I still vote biotech). Ambiently, this would increase the ability for people around Withmore to afford clone remapping - halving the price. PCs could take a gamble, deciding to use some of that remapping chy they saved over time to pay a recovery specialist to nab their body and stick their chip on ice. Enterprising recovery specialists could even negotiate insurance on that front.

Right now remapping is a chyen sink. Chyen sinks are good for the economy, but this one hits newer players harder. Certain jobs get free remapping, so cool, let those guys opt in or out each time they remap of having their chip transferred.

The room for shenanigans grows - what happens if you decide not to get your chip auto installed? Once your chip decays, is stolen, or is incinerated, your former alias is freed up for the taking by enemies, hired hands, or friends. Can't find your body? Oh no! Got to get to a cyberdoc before the SIC puppy rats you out... or don't and hide from the network entirely!

This would take a lot of coding tweaks of course and I know I haven't thought of every consequence something like this would bring, but I thought I'd drop it by. :)

I believe not having a SIC chip while living in the city is illegal, so that would probably need to be changed if this idea was implemented.
I think it should remain illegal but that a certain grace period for recovery could be enforced?
What the heck is remapping?
Papertiger is talking about the scanning brain we do at SenseNet to create a new brain mapping or a remapping(update process). That's for memories.

Hope that clears it.

This sounds like chaos since people looove to take bodies!
People often don't find their body to recover a chip. This not only won't be very popular if implemented, it will be a huge newbie trap that will just make the game more hellish for new players who die their first time, because they are most likely the ones to actually take the reduced cost option in the first place.
