This may just be impossible to code, so if so please delete the idea, but if not:
How about if high end cracker and electro tech skills allow you to crack open and combine two separate pieces of tech into one! Maybe they are housed in a 'console' item of some kind?
I'm imagining a mounted console in an aero or home or car that has the capabilities of a progia, a satnav, sic amp, a grid term, etc. whatever other things you can get, break open, and repackage together.
Could turn these consoles into some very hot commodities and give some more options for the utility focused characters to both install and be aware of big ticket items out there to be exploited.
(also if this is not what cracking does please ignore me, I still don't know what the heck it is after all these years!)
