Seems to me there are a lot of jobs that only see business on occasion. What if those jobs with blessed with the wear and tear of the goods they dealt with? Cars occasionally need tune ups so they run smoothly and cyberwear sees decreased performance as time and use go on. It would be much like the fact that guns get dirty. However, do it yourself repair should NOT be feasible.

Regular use usually dictates modification, repair of alot of different things. You been in an accident? Sometimes you will even hit a cat or something…no matter how good you driving/piloting is.

Cyberware is a different bag. Its built to survive forever...pending unreasonable treatment. Mostly because it can make you a target.

If you wanna RP something like that, its doable...there are also upgrades to the conventional parts found in your vehicle.

Spend sometime on the grid, asking for things like this. Might find some. :)

Though extensive bodywork is cyberpunk-esque (damn rice burners), I'd also like to see upgrades regarding functionality of a vehicle. Different grades of engine for top speeds, different size gas tank (5,10,20,30)L. These figures are much smaller than a real world gas tank because they revolve around what I understand the in game tank capacities to be. If fuel efficiency is factored in a 5L tank should be adequate for a cheap motorcycle. 10L would be for the economically minded. 20L is the standard. And 30L tanks are for gas guzzlers. However for desert folk external upgrades are yet another option to add another 10-20L on top of their 30L tank. External tanks would obviously be visible from the outside which will probably make you the target for a hefty number of parking and speeding tickets.
To prevent everybody from getting external tanks there need to be trade offs. Maybe it should cost a pretty penny, or have safety implications, or reduce fuel efficiency. But lets not stop at fuel tanks and engines. Give me mufflers, transmission, stereos, radios, on board computers, and a damn glove compartment!

I dunno about a glove compartment…unless aesthetically pleasing. We don't need lockable, impenetrable containers in would-be fortresses of invicibility+3.

I thought we had glove compartments? Then again I've only had a cruiser.

GPS, maybe an on on-board quickterm would be cool. but then again you can just carry them.

Engines and Transmissions already support this concept (its their key reason for existing, in fact). I'm not adding in the various 'tiers' of kit until I make all the parts functional though, and that is where bodywork needs its magic added. You don't see bodywork in the description. It needs to be done somehow like clothing … which is to say, I have a bunch of vehicle descriptions to analyze, break down into messages for each bodywork part and make sure the whole thing reads well enough.

It'll happen, at some point.
