Let's fill out the weapons lists: Rifles
sooooo many pistols...

Hello there my peoples. I am making a proposition that we fill out our weapon lists a little bit. As it stands right now. As far as selection, choice and variety go, pistols win Sindome. Pistols have access to 6 different calibers in the game, and each one of those calibers has 2 varients, as far as I can tell. (Maybe the revolvers got 1? that's not too important her,e just pointing out that there are like 12 variations of pistols in the game)

Meanwhile, rifles have 3 calibers, 2 carbines and 2 DMR. There's like no middle ground here. DO you wanna pay 10,000 or 100,000 for your rifle? Do you want 'eh' damage or 'op' damage?

If you add in the shotguns, this gets a little better, 2 gauges, with some variation on 12 gauge. But there's still like 12ish pistols to like 8 weapons in the 'rifle' catagory.

However, I know adding new ammot types and all that is a pain, adding new mag types to the game is a pain. SO let me offer a fun suggestion.

Conversion Carbines!

These are pistols that have been converted to rifles by adding a stock, and sometimes an extended barrel and scope. You already have the munitions skill in game, this would allow them to convert a pistol into a rifle. WHat does this look like you ask? Well here you go. SOme examples from Hunt Showdown, as well as rl.

This would give rifle users some middle ground weapons besides shotguns.

I plan to go into short blades and long blades on other threads.

Not sure this is necessary. Rifles are already the most versatile firearms type in the game and have access to the two most high damaging firearms in the game as well as having its own answer to the best pistol and SMG in the game. The pricing in comparison to pistols doesn't vary that much either as long as you're not paying retail, and most of the time you won't be doing that.
Yes, they have access to some of the most deadly stuff, at the highest end. And sur,e the price difference compared to pistols isn't much, I'm talking selection and variety here.

I'm just suggesting a fun way to open that up a bit.

This isn't a priority for me and it's been a while since I've looked over the selection of rifles available. I think the ideal in my mind would be something like 9 categories Essentially to have a low end, mid end and high end options of short range, mid range and long range weapons. To be honest, if this is already covered, I think we're solid. I recall some gaps but I think at least a significant portion of that selection is met, especially if you consider mods.

I'm fairly sure when you count all the rifles and pistols in the game it's almost equal, and it's certainly not 12 to 8. Rifles are already in a really good place in terms of diversity (shotguns, carbines, assault rifles, sniper rifles) and I don't think more variety is necessary.
There's definitely more pistols than rifles, but not by a significant margin. Some pistols have two variants per caliber but most don't. And also since the gun name/description update you might as well put the variants together (bar one set) because they got rewritten to be the same fucking gun.

The real gun type that loses out is SMGs but that's besides the point.

The real annoying part of the Rifles skill is that it's half rifles and carbines, and half shotguns. The tree bounces between them which is an ass if you want to stick to a style or aesthetic. In terms of power, Rifles is in a great place IMO, it's just the issue you run into is "I have to build to bounce around between using a a rifle then a shotgun then a rifle" whereas Pistols and SMGs are both fairly consistent with a few outlier tiers.

Also mods are laughable.
