Been meaning to ask for for about a year now but I keep forgetting. Would be really nice if we had some way to defeat the grapple stuff with chrome. Could even be a piece that keeps you from wearing armor like a few other exoskeletons. Basically it would just your grappler after three seconds or how ever long a shocker cred chip takes to shock someone. Right now there are only two solutions to this well three of you count hiding before stuff happens but the other two are to just dodge the grapple or break out of it.
Would be nice to have an option for immies.
Staff is this possible? A exoskeleton that makes it so you can't wear armor but also can't be grapple without injury?

I think something like this may already exist out there in the wide world of chrome, but who's to say?

A cybernetic implant/exoskeleton that shocks the person grappling you after a few seconds. Like you're a walking shocker chip.

Right sorry, forgot to spell check. Got up and came back down to this. Here is a better explanation without the stroke inducing grammar.
I’ve been meaning to bring this up for a year now but kept forgetting. It would be great to have a counter to grappling in Chrome—maybe an exoskeleton that disables armor but triggers a shock release after three seconds, similar to how long a shocker cred chip takes to activate.
Currently, the only options are dodging, breaking out, or hiding beforehand. It’d be helpful to have a specific solution for immies.
Staff, is something like this possible—an exoskeleton that prevents armor use but also damages grapplers to force a release?

Pulse forearm guards or something like that?

PulseForearms do not do anything related to grapple currently. They are used in combat when you parry brawling/MA, and do damage to an attacker via electricity.
They could possibly be modified to do something during grapples to make them more useful, for sure. Please continue to discuss.

That would be nice Slither. Honestly I would reup my club membership for like five years if this happened just out of sheer happiness. Grapple meta has been a pain in my side for so many years and unfortunately there are limited ways around it all of which require time investment and dedication sticking to those investments. There's no easy method to avoid it for newbies. If you piss someone off and they can grapple you and if you can't break out you are just at the whim of the other character. An introduction of chrome that does this, even if it just forces you to release the target once before it recharges it allows for more chase scenes and more chaotic outcomes.

Oh, I got really bad info then, my bad.
I to a point like it, but also just an opt-out from grapple feels a bit much? Maybe make it random, or greatly increased chance or something?
The way I see this going - someone way bigger grapples you to drag you into quiet place to talk, and do so fast so 17 people won't get notified you zap them, they now just murder you instead.
It's a bit of a problem, making talking-against-will rp bit less likely and traded for murder.

I would absolutely, positively, love something like this.
As it stands, grapple is just to strong. It's literally so strong, many people refuse to sit down in public spaces, because if a strongboi/grrrl grabs you, it's done. You're done. You're dead. You will not escape, and unless your friend is a read badass fighter and knows the trick to SLOWLY get around a meat shield, no one is saving you either.
So pretty please, give us a way to break holds that isn't a straight strength check. (as someone who has studdied more then one grappling art, I want to point out how DUMB it is that strength is the main factor here. Reall grappling requires more stamina then anything, and is like a game of chess if the other person knows how to grapple. Watch a judo or BJJ match for good examples of small guys beating much bigger guys)

Grapple - really is bad. There's a reason unarmed fighting is so popular. Why does it succeed pretty much every single time?

It's important to consider the ramifications of weakening grapples because then it will lessen the likelihood of abductions/beatings/things that aren't vatting and people will resort more to vatting.
Grapple is only strong in the early-to-mid phases of the game and falls off really hard, depending on stat and skill allocations. I don't think it's that OP and there are multiple factors factored in when someone attempts to grapple you. If you fail those checks, then you're likely just against someone who's leagues above you as it is (the only exception being if you're sat down).

honestly, cowbell, usually when i get grappled i expect to vat because thats what people use it for most of the time, in my experience. its also why i dont like sitting down in bars. instadeath.

There should still be a viable way to defend against it. You shouldnt just be able to grab and go. There should be counterplay.
Like i said, the playerbase doesn't even sit in public, because of this mechanic.
Gimme a stun skin mod or something so I can force a grappler to let go and fight me fair.

The Pulseguards absolutely need the capacity to autobreak grapples. 100% so much to this that I wanted to post specifically that Pulseguards should be able to do this but Rillem beat me to the punch.
Grapple is insanely overpowered when used against anyone remotely described as a non-combatant.
Pulseguard use is so insanely prohibitive that the drawbacks make it theoretically worse to have one installed. The ability to shock yourself out of a grapple would be an absolute god-send.
Also, not sure where these mythical "drag off to have a conversation" scenes are happening. They result in neck snaps 98% of the time. Threatening to increase the rate to 99% doesn't really work.

I wanna state, it's not All vatting. Every single dismemberment starts with a dragodff, unless its a gang fight.
But yeah. Grapple is OP. Even if you are a fighter, you have to pretty much have better stats. And that's all it comes down to. A straight stat role. You literally can't train a skill to counter this. And holding a grapple costs 0 stamina, from what I can tell. Meaning they can drag you as far as they want. From one side of the mix, to t he other, down into the sewers, around a corner or too. Null sweat.
I really wish there was a grappling martial art or something.

if the stamina cost is that low that sounds like the main issue. struggling in someone's grip shud also tire the grappler more

I think I would rather another mechanic let a bodyguard intervene on a grapple for a non-combatant. I like that we have to team up. Non-combatants can be powerful in different ways but I don't like them being made not to fear the superbads who invest ue in combat skills. This encourages us to consider protection when we're out or to invest in stealth or other safety measures. It could be though that this wouldn't be suitable for the areas of the game I don't play though. Not sure.

It does but you can break through it. You still need someone with the stats to stand up to it. Regardless of if this could actually become a thing, I think new chrome options are cool and most of the problems new chrome can cause can be addressed in balance changes or could end up in removal. Instead of speculating lets just try something and see if it works. If it doesn't can roll it back and add an IC reason for the issue. Like a firmware issue or it ended up shocking the user by mistake and had to be recalled. Like there are ways to play this and try out new things.
