NPC Paydata
Make decking profitable...

Hedging on the most recent conversations regarding decking, one of the complaints raised about decking is that the skill doesn't have much in the way of earning money. There could be a way to use decking to crack and steal paydata from NPCs and collect this in the form of an e-mem chip. And then other NPCs could be looking for these chips, willing to buy them. You could have this work functionally in a similar way to how selling other items to NPCs works, and it could exist both in Red, and topside for those corpies who need a side hustle.
Or it could be a gridmail address that you send an email asking about work, and it sends an automated response asking for you to run #link-node or something. And you're just asked to crack into any random node for which your grid account isn't on the ACL of, or the owner of. Don't know how complex that would be to code so if technical limitations make that unrealistic, I get it.
This is an interesting idea, but unless it's outside of the weekly earnings cap, it wouldn't be that helpful imo and it would discourage going out to do weeklies. Maybe if you could do it once a week regardless of the cap?

(And you can edit posts to add on to them, you don't have to do a self-reply.)

I'd be okay with that. I think the payment should be sent to the owner of the SIC ID, as well, so that it's not possible to use a nulled grid account, which creates an element of risk. It also encourages people to work together a little and let anyone decide to split the earnings with their decker friend who can do the cracking for them.
neat thought but that would be less "adding an element of risk" and more "guaranteeing you get called up to the hall within the next 30 minutes"
There is certainly a way to make this work nonetheless for balance, even if I have yet to figure out the specifics.
