Dropping things with style

There was a command they implemented in another mud I played called omote (emote for objects) which allowed you to set the room description for a dropped object.

So you could 'drop pipe bomb'

Then omote pipe is tucked under a pile of trash, barely visible at all.

Anyone entering the room would then see, 'A pipe bomb lies here, tucked under a pile of trash, barely visible at all."

It was a temporary room description that would get wiped if the item was picked up and dropped again.

I kind of thought it was a silly addition when they added it, but it ended up being really fun and I think it could be even more fun here since lots of items are left for others to find in various ways already. Adds a bit of flavor.

I played a mud with that command too and I've been wishing it was in this game it'd be so good.
Interesting idea.

Thank.

I like the idea for flavour, but I would be a little worried that extensive use would result in somewhat spammy output upon entering a room. I suppose it couldn't be any worse than walking into a room full of players, though.

Ultimately I'm interpreting this as adding the @lp or @tp value to objects and providing players with the ability to set it.

I like this because it adds more to items than just being in a vague "is here" when it's in a room, usually it leads me to automatically assume everything is all in a pile in the center
At least according to a previous thread on this topic, Johnny said that this messaging is supported but restricted to admin only. It didn't sound like that was going to change back then but several years have passed so hard to say what the temperature is.
Just to throw my actual opinion in, while some staff have said they don't think players should be able to use @integrate, I'm not sure there is actually a lot of evidence to support it's abuse or spamminess would be a foregone conclusion because there are other descriptive areas of the game that are basically untethered and rarely present problems, or where they do sometimes present problems (like descriptions) the benefits of the freedoms outweigh the minority issues.

I think it's something that could reasonably be tried out for a trial period and rolled back if there was problems with it, but I do think directives to keep things reasonable and not excessive or abused carry weight with players generally and might be enough.

Yeah I'd love to see walls of flyers for events and stuff stuck up on the walls among other things instead of just tossed on the floor.
I don't see too many problems compared to things like look_places, If 15 people can be in a room with a sentence each then why not let people add a little flavor for objects

"you see a letter" vs "A letter is here, stuck between some books" it can add 10x the context.

I think I argued against this maybe last time since I was worried it would be abusable. I have since played a game where I saw how it was used and it was pretty great. There were some things that were a bit meta or conflicted with the room/object desc, but it was very rare, and easy to ignore.

I do think some guidelines should be outlined for its use in a helpfile or something if its implemented! For example, you should not be allowed to write somthing like "A replica %N lies here. It's totally fake, just like your mom last night." I missed being able to set messages for objects when I returned to the game. (minus that one thing you can do. Id like to do the thing with all the things….) :P
