Organ Harvesting
For Fun and Profit

A gruesome concept but a very simple income gameplay loop idea to support the starting steps of a grey or black market medical career outside of the typical nurse and paramedic track (or in addition to them). Have two or three "organs" inside a body which are basically just do-nothing coded implants described as organs which can be removed from corpses through ripping mechanics like cyberware, and which can then be turned into certain NPCs for a small cash payment. For example 1000c per. This would count against the income cap like any other automated source and would serve as an alternative to crates but more directly catered to underworld medical-ish archetypes.

While I don't think this would solely enable back-alley ripperdocs to be more of a widespread archetype, it would lay some groundwork for other possible future tweaks to do so, get more players more familiar with the mechanics and game feedback of surgery and ripping, and offer a bit of themely income to the more macabre side of the underworld. Body snatchers lurking at the fringes of Wicks drop sites, like vultures eyeing their next meal.

Though I'm definitely making a lot of inferences based on how cybernetics was adapted to create the new robotics parts, in terms of how "simple" it would be creating new additional dummy cybernetic objects and having them spawn in corpses dynamically. This could very well be vastly more complex to implement in practice than I'm imagining, but I think there is at least the kernel of a mechanic there using these system frameworks.

I also think borrowing the valid chassis checks that robot parts have could stave off bugs from someone trying to install an "organ" object into a living character and screwing up their cyberware loadout somehow. Which is almost certainly the first thing anyone would try to do.

We don't have nearly enough ripperdocs in the game, nor do we really have facilities for them to use. Giving newbies a place to start with organ harvesting seems like a great idea to me. As long as you can only earn up to the cap it's also no worse than running crates or drugs for chy so I don't see it imbalancing things either. You can hit that earnings cap in two minutes if you know what you're doing without this system.

Here are a few things this would enable:

WCS making illicit deals to hand over corpses to rippers

TERRA trying to break up organ harvesting rings

TERRA taking bribes to leave these rings alone

Rippers hiring security so they aren't mugged

Gangs messing with rippers who are after organs

Rippers paying the gangs off so they're left alone

Syndicates attempting to create an organ harvesting monopoly

Muggers trying to find ways to steal organs anyway

Dips having another thing to reach into pockets for

Hiring guides to get to those who buy harvested organs

ICly organ harvesting could be frowned upon and not really something a greeter mentions to an immy, for fear of scaring them right back out the gates again. The amoral individual who purchases these organs should also be located somewhere out of the way, like the park or maybe even the sewers. Walk the path at your own risk.

I really like this idea and I kind of think it already exists (maybe only through staff assistance currently?) I have definitely seen items like "a human eye" before in game. Major +1 to this!

Anything that feeds into more super sketchy ripper-docs is a major boon to the game in my opinion.

Also, the potential of sewing on other people's body parts through the combination of some nano-goo in lieu of chrome replacements for lost limbs would be awesome.

"Mano, your hand looks…different."

"Oh, this? Yeah, used to be Bob's actually, but the Doc took care of that for me after I lost mine in that brawl the other week"
