QOL Ideas for Market

Just some ideas that I've jotted down about the markets that I think would be nice to see implemented.

Appraise and Looking

-I know this is a weird request, but it would be greatly beneficial to have the readout from looking at an item instead of appraise just spitting out the item description. There are certain qualities about items that can be gathered through enhanced vision (chrome, candy, kyber crystals) that aren't present when appraising an item.

Appraise and Item Haggling

-When the point in the hawking and selling process comes that the vendor begins to offer me 5K and a used sock, the ability to actually appraise the used sock to see what I'm getting would be nice. Currently there isn't any way to know what you're getting other than a vague wording with zero idea of condition. I think an ability to appraise the items being counter offered should be added. It's not fair to offer me a diamondweave sash and I agree only to find out it has shoddy craftsmanship, has already been repaired and is chopped to ribbons.

Revert the fix to "double luck" in the marketplaces.

-The fix to the haggling system rolling luck multiple times disabled what I feel was a feature, not a bug. Before this was "fixed" someone in the market could essentially set their luck pool on fire and burn it away like there was no tomorrow, but in return it would drive the prices available to the market runner down significantly. Up to 5-10% difference which sometimes could means thousands of chyen saved by being really really really lucky in the markets. Granted, they would have zero luck dragging everything home with them, but that's the risks you take.

New Trade Action: Peek Direction

-It would be nice if the peek command could be ported into the marketplace and possibly put behind a Trade related skill check in order to spy into marketplace stalls without actually entering the stall, or even being able to access it. Sort of like being able to see through a maze wall without having to be able to figure out how to get there. This would be the equivalent of peering through tiny gaps in the market stalls to see what lies beyond.

Market Sense

-I know that this is a big wish, but I think that at a certain point a trader should just be able to "know" the layout of a market as if they were accessing a map in their head. Perhaps maybe not in its entirety but a sizeable chunk.

Superhero Landings From Vantage Point

-I think that if you attempt a superhero landing from one of the vantage points that you should be deposited into the far back corner, not the entrance.

Bans Park Market Should Be Mixmash Only

-It even looks like in the descriptors that the people in the markets are already supposed to be speaking Mixmash and that certain hard coded IC info sources indicate that this was maybe actually a thing in the past. I think that this should return, at least in the Park. Or at the very least cause mark-ups based upon how little of Mixmash you understand.

These are cool ideas. I like the ability to appraise an item being offered on trade.

The super hero landing bit makes sense as well, targeting some other room in the market.

I actually thought the market in BP was already using MixMash. It definitely makes thematic sense.

For the looking through the stalls thing, I didn't quite understand it. This is like, being able to peer in a direction where there is no exit, to see into the adjacent room that you can't currently get to?

The idea is for those players who actually have the capacity to mentally map out a marketplace by just walking through it.

So if in a theoretical 6x6 marketplace, if someone were to be ablet to get to room [5,6] only to find themselves at a dead end with no way to move further, they could "peek" across the wall into room [6,6] to find out what (or who) is inside that square without spending another ten minutes figuring out where they took the wrong turn inside the maze just to find out they wasted all that time for an empty progia market-stall.

The reason I mentioned porting the peek command was thinking it would be easier to just copy the already existing code for spying into adjacent rooms instead of reinventing the wheel.

Also, I was suddenly reminded of something that I've been meaning to bring up, but I don't know if it warrants its own topic or not.

I think that after the changes to the phones to move away from the 7,9,11 models to just one type that it should be considered whether or not phones should continue to have their own dedicated market room. They can easily be lumped into the quick term room, it's just what type of room would fill its place is a bit of a question.

I'd like to see a dedicated furniture market room, but I'm not sure if the turnover of those item types is high enough to warrant their own room.

What's interesting about all the markets, not just BP, is that it says the merchants are speaking Mixmash, but that's just text flavor - they are actually speaking English.

A filthy old man notices your interest, "*speaking mixmash* You want? Is only 1c for you."

I've seen characters react in confusion that they could understand the merchants perfectly despite not having studied any Mixmash.
