Reloading pops

A small thing for gun techs idea:

With the right tools (ballistic toolkit?), and high enough munitions skill, let us dismantle, clean and reload pops. Only takes short mags, still not worth doing for normal people, but could give nice recycling secondary market for them.

Can easily balance is by the munitions skill check for dismantle and then reload (needs to be open first to access the mag, so no doing it on the go) and it's thematic af.

So imagine this, right?

These are supposed to be like, disposable guns that you throw away and shit, yeah?

You're supposed to be able to just buy these things from vending machines, yeah?

What if there was a little vending machine that both sold these and also -recycled- them? So if you had a fully spent pop pop, or one that was filthy and gross, you could insert an old pop pop (deleting the old item) and get a fresh one for a reduced priced compared to buying a new one for a way lower price (ammunition and cleaning cost) This would let you 'reload' pop pops, or clean them if they're dirty, and it can have a cool little sequence where you old the old one it, the machine cleans it, sterilizes it, unloads and reloads it, and then pops it back out to you with a cute little 'Ding!'

And when you buy from it, it doesn't ask for ID but it stipulates, 'All people purchasing a firearm acknowledge that PopCorp is not liable for any damages and that the purchaser acknowledges they are a licensed firearm carrying citizen of Withmore. It is illegal to own a firearm in Withmore without a license. Do you have a license?' Then you hit 'yes' and it just sells you one. That way it covers it's own ass.

Suddenly Fixers want to buy up used pop pops, recycle 'em and have a fresh stock of firearms, it cleans up a ton of useless junk items and puts these guns back on the market for super hella cheap. Wowee, we all win.

So fixers removing gun techs from the game even more? I'll say naaah.
Ngl that sounds like an awful idea for the economy
I don't think disposable firearms should be reloaded due to the spirit of the disposable firearm. I do think firearm techs should be able to craft disposable firearms not of the popop variety though. Perhaps a disposable pipe shotgun? Disposable 3D printed smg?
I mean, we call it disposable, and it has those 'against the law to open' stickers which just BEGS to be opened.
I personally like the idea of letting those with high enough munitions skills and high enough supporting stats do things nobody else can. Like refurbish disposable firearms. There are a ton of ways to balance this if at some point it's decided it needs to be balanced.

Regarding a vending machine, I'm also open to something like this. Getting low end firearms out there in some way. I am confident that, if it's desired, it's possible to make up a lore reasons why they exist. But I would want to be sure they were balanced in a way that didn't take away from a munitions type. So no exchange auto-fix component.

I am all in for easier accessible popops too! They take all the risk of proper gun to shift, but very little reward.
As long as the skill check required is higher than what can be done with a Platinum skillsoft, this sounds like a good idea.

If a character wants to burn a crap ton of UE to get their munitions skills through the roof, then throw them a bone and let them reload a popgun.

Extra points if said character then says, "This crap isn't worth my time. Buy a real gun from me and I'll work on it for you."

To my knowledge the popops are manufactured in a way where reloading them is highly improbable. I believe you can see why by looking at their descriptions.

Okay but can we get disposable variations of the other gun types to go with this? Pistols already have enough going for em.
I was going to suggest that but it sounds like it would need its own idea topic. I would further say that they should also have every caliber available from top down. The fact that you can't modify them or reload them should offset being able to grab one in whatever the highest caliber is in my opinion.
I don't think disposable firearms should be reloadable. Speaking as someone with firearms experience I think it would be a very bad idea to reload a weapon that designed to be disposable as one of the things it would definitely lack compared to a normal firearm is a quality barrel. It would only have to survive the number of shots that are in the gun before it could fail, which means realistically, it would probably be rated for twice that number of shots so it could probably handle the heavier abuse of someone getting it hot rapid firing off all the rounds, but the issue with reloading it wouldn't just be needing to take it apart to reload it, but the barrel and other parts of the firearm would likely become unsafe to use pretty quick. Think 3d printed firearm quality. You wouldn't want to keep running bullets through it's barrel because it would wear down really quick and when it failed it likely wouldn't fail just by jamming but would likely fail spectacularly with the barrel exploding or the action breaking apart and throwing the slide, firing pin and springs out of the back of the gun. Reusing disposable firearms would be incredibly dangerous.
While I'm not against it, I don't think it adds much besides potentially hurting the low-grade firearms black market. Pop pops are already significantly easier to acquire than any other firearms in the game.
