Revenge of the Cars
Lightning McQueen had it with your bullshit!

Yo.

How about giving unarmed cars a very, very minor combat capability?

Like ramming folk in combat. Realistically you wouldn't be parked there and just take it.

I say give them some dmg to deal to ppl, make it not a lot to keep it somewhat fair and to not turn them into the newest meta for combat. Make it take the driving skill I guess.

Make it available for AVs, too, the ramming. But make it considerably harder to do and make them crash upon failure.

ADDENDUM:
Add perfectly legal melee weapons to add to vehicle hardpoints, too.

Let us Mad Max.
Nah, you can flee from on foot attackers without a check. Just drive away. In general it being easier to arm vehicles would be a better solution to them being defenseless when you do want to fight.
@necronex666
Yeaaah.. about that…

Ace idea, being able to run people over would be cool.

Another idea for vehicles :
Trauma activated shock system. Sort of a defensive vehicle upgrade that you can buy and install.

If your vehicle takes damage, every several seconds disperse an electric shock which damages attackers slightly if they're on foot. Could stack to do a lot of damage since it takes a while to fuck up a vehicle, and also would make people have to be more creative and spend more resources targeting said vehicles.
+1 million to both ideas presented (with the caveat that I think the person on foot should have to initiate trying to beat up the car before ramming can be attempted)

And yeah finding out that fleeing issue was a bug and not just something like rolling too low on driving/piloting skill was fun to find out completely after the fact (-_-).

Tbh I find the system of beating up vehicles to be kinda ridiculous and not really adding much of anything fun to the game. Not something I've had a ton of experience with though so maybe I'm missing context in the history behind it getting implemented. Either way more types of counterplay like this would be fitting.
It was added because people would just sit in their vehicle and be 100% invincible, with there being zero action their enemies could take to get them out of it. An issue compounded by PCs parking their vehicle outside the door of a club and using a macro to immediately get in it. The vehicle damage system isn't perfect but it's better than them being indestructible safety bubbles.
Good idea, MIkael. Could make that scale off of the security system installed.
I think a good middle ground would be to allow deckers to scan and put some minor damage capabilities on the security system for when it, and it alone, is damaged. Restricted to person versus vehicle combat, not vehicle versus vehicle combat. And not much.

But it'd be a nice touch of defense against those who go beyond attacking to break windshields.
Why "not much"? Why not have it scale off the decker's abilities?
Because if you put too much damage on it, then you start to go into making it pointless for either running or hiring a solo to come bail you out.

It's why I wrote for person-to-vehicle only and not vehicle-to-vehicle, because if you had it happen in vehicle-to-vehicle, you start making vehicle weapons pointless.
I'm not sure why the entire game is meant to revolve around that one archetype? Why must everything center around solos?
Might be a better topic for a different thread, but basically the idea is to involve more than one person in a plot, fight or engagement. Physical combat can bring the need for medics, chrome rippers, armstech/armor repair, selling/buying gear, surveillance, scouting, charismatic smooth-talkers for diplomacy.
Right, but why wouldn't the damage scale off of how good someone is as a decker? Isn't that UE spent on the character build supposed to matter for something? I don't understand why the entire game is meant to be built around solos.

The vibe I'm getting from this weird turn here is that there are many archetypes in the game and they're all meant as supporting cast for the One True Archetype. If solos are the only viable character build in the game, why do we have alternative options?
Also, why can't these character be involved in the Techie v Techie combat? It feels like there are a lot of options for engaging with this idea that doesn't involve scaling it back immediately the moment it might even hint at the idea that solos aren't the end all be all to every problem in the game.
Get your own thread. This is mine and it is about adding damage capabilities to unarmed cars/adding legal melee weaponry for cars. Not your solo vs decker debate.
That's a cop out of a response.

The idea was already pivoted well before my comment, about adding damage to the security system but you didn't complain about the topic being split from your original idea then.
