I was thinking about this stacking thing some more and thought maybe you could even take it another level and any time there's a certain number of a specific category of items in a room you could have it become part of the description like "a small pile of vehicle parts is piled here." and perhaps as that number grows and hits certain thresholds the description can change, to reflect how much of a mess it would be causing. "a small pile, a large pile, a hoard of " as some examples you could look at the piles to interact with the individual items and get from pile.
This could apply to anything really.. books, vehicle parts, printed documents, electronics, anything.
I think this would do a lot more to represent a messy room with lots of things in it than simply having the objects sitting in a list on the floor without being represented in the description itself.
It's easy for me to get overwhelmed trying to parse all the red text sometimes. I do a lot of double takes just to make sure I am seeing everything there.
And of course people could still buy all the furniture and storage they want or need to keep it out of their room descriptions and organized how they see fit for a cleaner look, I don't want to replace the purpose for those types of things. The piles of stuff in your room should still look like PILES of things and reflect a messy and unorganized environment.
