Subterfuge Skillsofts
Sneaksoft

As far as I am aware, there are no skillsofts available in-game for Stealth, Thievery, and Dodge. The skillsoft I'd like to see the most would be Stealth, because I think it would be really useful along the lines of the Disguise skillsoft. But the other two subterfuge skills would also be great as skillsofts.
I feel like a stealth skillsoft might end up being a little bit unbalanced, since having it makes it theoretically near impossible for you to lose it. Of course there's more to it in practice, but still.

A dodge skillsoft still seems maybe a little too powerful, but I don't think it would be too bad. Ultimately it would depends super highly on stats, so it could be useless if you don't have the stats for it.

A theft skillsoft I think would actually be really cool, and could make using taking things or planting things on people as a way to push plots forward way more accessible. It gets my support.

Skillsofts can be easily knocked out of a person's head, which can be good recourse if you spot someone sneaking with a cheap low-level soft.
My feeling on it is lot of current skills bring the risk of loading and keeping loaded, due to that. This makes me imagine slotting a platinum Stealth and Evasion Soft and just being nigh uncatchable. Would be interesting though.
I don't have super strong feelings about this. Mostly I'm curious about the reasoning behind the decision to not have them. I always assumed game play and IC reasons.

On the IC side, if these are added, I'd want it thematic. Maybe they are all illegal, hard to find and more expensive. I can't see the city wanting to allow the legal sale of skillsofts that are the bread and butter of the elusive thief. Not openly at least.

Heck. Maybe it's an expensive and very difficult tech roll to turn an existing soft into one of these. If you want one, you need to get one made. Find a character who knows how. Fork out a lot of chyen and get difficult equipment. More work for tech types.

I imagine there are lots of ways to handle this. I'm just not a fan of seeing them in stores really.

Why not make firearm and explosives skillsofts illegal without a license while we're at it? Would be themely and ICly logical.
Because both are, in theory, dependent on items the city tries to control and limit access to. Not so much with these. That being said, I'd be happy to have explosives made illegal too.

Also, I don't know why the decision was made. I'd love to hear about it though if staff wants to share!

I could have sworn that one of these softs exists.
I don't see that allowing a dodge soft would cause much harm, it'd only be useful up to a certain point anyway. Stealth soft could allow optimized characters access to enhanced stealth and I'm not sure if the cost would offset the boost, maybe the load time would.

The thievery soft I actually hate the idea of because an optimized character who didn't have the skill before slotting a platinum would be a nightmare shrouded and doing their thing. If they're set up for it then it has the lowest risk using the thievery soft out of the three suggested here.

These skillsofts don't exist purposefully.
Understood. I’d be interested in hearing your reasoning behind it.
My guess is chip manufacturers IC don't want to enable criminal activities for the general public.
