Maybe writing down the behaviour expected of players - both new and old - should be written down somewhere to avoid giant shitstorms and save everyone a lot of grief and frustration and to lay down some guidelines so everyone, including admin, know how to act in a situation without the archwiz having to get involved or having to defend/attack opinions he may or may not agree with.

If there's an 'unwritten rule' so to speak regarding having a history and doing things, then it should be written down as to become a 'written rule' (a.k.a. A 'real' rule).
