Hunter S. Thompson is Dead

Who was your Hunter S. Thompson?

My idol.

http://www.gonzo.org/

He was awesome.  I have to be honest though, I thought he was already dead.. I hadn't really though about it.. but the way he was going in his books and movies, I figured he had passed along awhile ago.

It doesn't surprise me that he offed himself, he was the kinda guy that did things on his own terms, he didn't wanna suffer the indignities of old age.

I've read one of his other books, Fear and loathing on the capaign trail '72 I think it was.  Not Las Vegas style, but more of real journalism.. a good read though.

He reminds me alot of Spider from Transmet, I don't doubt that he influenced that character.  Has anyone read any of his books?

Allowing that I live in the future and it is now August 20th here, I feel the need to draw your attention to Mr. Thompson's funeral plans.

Thompson's family and friends are trying to arrange for Thompson's ashes to be fired out of a cannon, as he wished. … the cannon he envisioned was to be in the shape of a double-thumbed-fist, 150 feet in length. The firing of his ashes is scheduled for a private ceremony August 20, 2005, after which the cannon will remain as a memorial. There are talks of a public party sometime in the summer of 2006.

(By the way, if you weren't up with it, this project was financed by Johnny Depp, who played Hunter in the movie of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and who lived with Hunter as part of his character research.)

Oh, it's a strange world.

Do you have tickets?

:bigguns: Ohhh YEAhhh! Talking about the gun show!

Depp is an interesting human being…I am glad the world is full of crazies and madness. Makes me feel sane in little doses...
Gonzo goes out with a bang (from the Sydney Morning Herald, a highlight of Australian journalism… bleh)

The scene at the Owl Farm compound outside Aspen also included blow-up dolls, bands and plenty of liquor to honour Thompson, who killed himself six months ago at the age of 67.

Fitting tribute.

Here's a link that won't require registration.
Oh. Oops, it didn't need one when I looked.
Should have known though, gorram Murdoch papers… *grumbles*

However, no matter where the article is printed, it's priceless journalism in my eyes as long as it includes this line:
"He loved explosions," said his wife, Anita Thompson.

…apparently not written by a Doctor of Journalism.
