"Public Areas"

There are some things that require an xhelp / GM oversight if not installed in "Public Areas".

"Installing STUFF anywhere that doesn't belong to your character (excluding public areas on red) should be done only after you have xhelp'd and gotten permission from an admin. STUFF is SUSPICIOUS as are the people that install it. Failure to get permission may result in OOC punishment. When in doubt, XHELP. Continue?"

My understanding of public areas has been anything that is publicly accessible and not owned by a faction. For example, Bars, Clubs, Businesses, Gang HQs, Faction HQs, etc.

My interpretation is that apartment hallways / lobbies ARE public areas. They are publicly accessible and it is normal for people who don't live there to be in them.

How do the GMs define "public areas"?

How about the rest of you?

Where does PUBLIC end and PRIVATE begin?

The street is a public area. A park is a public area. A business or building is private.
A building is owned by someone so it's a private area. If someone would eventually find it and say "wow what is this doing in my property".
This will slippery slope to locked buildings - while themely, this will further degrade PC to PC interactions.

I mostly agree with this. My interpretation was that as long as something was publicly accessible, then it qualifies as a Public Area.

I appreciate that staff was lenient with my misunderstanding of these things.

For future players, I think it would be great if the alert text was modified such that "public areas" is replaced with specifics. Maybe it can read…
