https://youtu.be/yAMRXqQXemU?t=25

[+][Bit-Chat] Cerberus: you know

[+][Bit-Chat] Cerberus: I wish people would stop asking for promotions

[+][Bit-Chat] Cerberus: You can't get away with that shit in RL

[+][Bit-Chat] Linekin says, "good thinking, that's a really important corpie RP skill"

[+][Bit-Chat] Linekin says, "At Sindome, we get our promotions the old way. We eaaarrrrrrn them."

[+][Bit-Chat] Cerberus: I've done this and this so I need more pay and a new title, please, or i'll stop playing.

[+][Bit-Chat] Cerberus: >.>

[+][Bit-Chat] Linekin nods.

[+][Bit-Chat] Cerberus: Gets promotion and still stops playing

[+][Bit-Chat] Linekin says, "heh"

This is a true thing. Most of you have heard GMs say before that giving someone what they want when they ask for it is the fastest way to see them leave the game.

Another true thing is that, while this game's corpie theme IS about self-serving motivations and actions, so too is a two-year-old's modus operandi. It's the difference between "asking till I get what I want" and "winning recognition and being rewarded for it".

Characters who are this blatant, tactless and clumsy about pursuing advancement, power and income/benefits enhancements should get realistic reactions from their NPC bosses.

Characters who exercise subtlety and intelligence, who show-without-telling their bosses how valuable they are, are the ones who should find their performance rewarded.

It's fine if you're a player who doesn't want to roleplay this way. It really is. There is room in the corpie world for characters who are less crafty, Machiavellian, delicate, and hungry than the ones who will advance on their perceived merits rather than their bald self-promotion. That might mean, though, that your character might have to kiss more ass to get anywhere, your character might have to compromise more if leadership wants them to do things they want to say No to.

This is the theme.

Agreed.
